Mubi River Bridge - Recovery & Erection

Client : Clough Engineering
Location : Papua New Guinea
Year : 1993

The Mubi River Bridge is an 80m single span steel truss bridge. The bridge superstructure collapsed during the erection due to a failure of a member in the launching nose. The owner Chevron Niugini called tenders for the recovery and Madsen Giersing prepared the detailed design of the recovery process and the temporary works required. Madsen Giersing also provided site supervision for the critical lifts.

The main lifting equipment was a double A-frame with a height of 30m. The total lifting capacity of the A-Frame was 20t at a 20m radius.
