Haughton Pump Stations No. 2 & 3
|
Client : MacMahon Constructions Location : Queensland, Australia Year : 1990-1991
Madsen Giersing prepared the detailed design and the construction sequence for the cofferdam for Haughton Pump Stations No 2 & 3. The pump stations were built on the bank of the reservoir and the foundation requirement was that a hole had to be excavated 14m below the water level in the dam.
The cofferdam was designed with an elliptical shape to suit the footprints of the pump stations and minimise the required size. The dimensions of the cofferdam were 24m long by 18.5m wide.
The horizontal walers were cast in situ concrete beams which, because of the elliptic shape, acted as an arch eliminating the requirement for internal struts.
